This tool writes a page number near the bottom of every page in a PDF. Pick a position and a starting number, tick the box if a cover page should stay blank, then drop your PDF above.

The numbers are drawn as new text on top of the existing content in plain Helvetica, black, with a half-inch margin. Whatever is already on the page is untouched: no content is moved, re-rendered, or re-encoded to make room, so a number can land on top of existing text if a page already has something in that corner. Each page is measured on its own, so a document that mixes page sizes or orientations gets its numbers placed correctly page by page rather than against one assumed size.

Numbering is a single running count. Per-section numbering, roman numerals, and formats like "Page 3 of 12" are not supported.

Numbering usually comes last. If you are assembling a document from several files, run Merge PDF first, settle the order with Reorder PDF Pages, then number the result so the count matches the finished document.

FAQ

Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The numbers are drawn in your browser and the new PDF is built there. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does this change the existing page content?
No. Each number is added as a new line of text on top of the page. Nothing already on the page is moved, removed, or re-rendered.
What if my PDF mixes page sizes?
Each page is measured individually and the number is placed relative to that page, so a document mixing letter, A4, and landscape pages still gets numbers in the same visual spot on every page.
Can I start numbering at something other than 1?
Yes. Set the starting number and counting continues from there. You can also skip the first page, which leaves a cover page blank while the page after it takes the starting number.
Can I remove the numbers later?
Not with this tool. Once saved, the numbers are ordinary page content. Keep your original file if you may need an unnumbered copy.
Can I number only some pages, not the whole document?
Only in one way: you can leave the first page blank with the skip option. There is no way to number a custom range or skip more than the first page. Everything from the first numbered page to the last gets a number.
Where does the page number get placed?
Near the bottom of the page, in one of three positions you choose before running the tool: bottom center, bottom right, or bottom left. There is no top-of-page option.
