Convert HEIC photos from an iPhone to lossless PNG. Use PNG when you need a clean copy for further editing without introducing lossy compression, rather than for everyday sharing — for everyday sharing, HEIC to JPGproduces a much smaller, more widely compatible file.
Why PNG instead of JPG or WebP
PNG re-encodes the decoded pixels without discarding any detail. That makes it the right choice when the photo is going into further lossless editing, but it also means the resulting file is typically several times larger than the original HEIC, and much larger than a HEIC to JPGor HEIC to WebPconversion of the same photo. If you just need to share or upload the photo somewhere, one of those is usually the better fit.
